30 Oct 2010 - First Snow Storm

Friday, Oct 22nd, we rode our bikes up "Three Peaks" across the valley from our house. Saturday morning, we drove to Denver to get our Prius service and then onto Ft. Collins to visit Craig, Sarah, & Zoe. Early Saturday morning, we had snow above 10,000' and our drive up to the Eisenhower Tunnel was a real experience since Rick had not scheduled getting our snow tires put on until the following Monday. After fish tailing and driving 15mph we finally made it to the tunnel and started down (slowly) towards Denver.

Sunday morning after watching the local news to check on the weather reports, we drove back up to the mountains on dry roads. Loveland Ski Area (located on east side of Eisenhower Tunnel) was the first Colorado Ski Area to open this season, and we could the skiers making their first runs of the season.

A blizzard hit Summit County on Monday, Oct 25th, and lasted for 2.5 days. We had 12" snow on our deck on Tuesday and another 6-8" by the next morning. High winds, whiteout conditions, and Loveland reported 33" of new powder as a result of the storm.

Yesterday, Oct 29th, the we had warm weather, a lot of snow melt, and the roads were pretty dry. Rick walked up Hamilton Creek road behind our house.

Today, Rick was able to ride his bike back up "Three Peaks".

Although it is currently about 54 degrees, snow is in the forecast for tonight.

This is why we love it.......
