27 Oct 27 - Project 365
Today is Day 15 of Project 365, where I am attempting to take and post a photo each day. Check out my other blog photos365.mtnclimbers.com
As I left for physical therapy this morning I drove by the North Pond near our house. I was happy that I had grab my camera before leaving since the pond was perfectly still and reflected Buffalo Mountain and Red Peak. In the past, I have either not had my camera with me when the pond was still or I was too late and the wind was already blowing. Timing is everything.
49 years ago today, I was working at the LeDuc gas station in the 500 block of North Tower Ave, Centralia, Wa when we had a Hurricane force storm. I was the only person working that afternoon and we were one of only a few gas stations open for 100's of miles. I was busy pumping gas, selling kerosene fuel, and fixing flat tires.
I remember standing outside when the wind really picked up and was concerned that the glass in the station would just explode.
The Lewis and Clark State Park , 20 miles south of Centralia, had a unique stand of old-growth forest, primarily Douglas fir and red cedar. It is one of the last old-growth forest stands remaining along Hwy. 99. Two-thirds of the old-growth trees were blown down in the 1962 Columbus Day Storm (8.5 million board feet of the original 13.5 million). The park was closed for three years to make repairs and plant tree.
The following morning the sky was blue and the only sound you could hear was chainsaws cutting up down trees.
It was cold and snowy today but just around sunset it cleared. This is a photo of the mountains south of the Dillon Reservoir. I just read on the internet that Wolf Creek ski area will be open this weekend with 3' of snow, 3 lifts, and $33 tickets.
For just a few minutes this morning there was an opening to take a photo of the Fall Powder Sugar on top of Gore Range. Snow is predicted for the local mountains tonight thru Saturday.
