Last Monday, we hike Elliot's Ridge with our friends Gary and Melody. Elliot's Ridge is north of Silverthorne about 25 miles. The ridge runs along between Summit County and Eagle County and is a great hike because you immediately open up above tree line and have 360 degree views of the mountains. On one side you can see the Vail ski area with Holycross (14,005') and great up close views of the Eagles Nest Wilderness and Gore Range mountains.
This is a photo of one of our credentials to attend Obama's Acceptance Speech at Invesco Field on Thursday, 28 August 2008. We are very fortunate to have received these as a gift from our Summit County Democrats. This should be a very memorable and important speech by Barrack Obama.
Tonight's sunset was especially nice due to the cloud base that enhanced the sun's rays.
During the night we had a winter storm roll through Summit County. At about 4:30AM it was thunder and lighting and raining really hard at our place. When we got up this morning it cleared and I was able to take a couple photos before the clouds covered the mountains. Thought that this was a great photo showing the green mountain side with a dusting of snow. Click on the photo to see a larger view.
Yesterday around 11:30AM, the I-70 west bound lanes were closed at the Tunnel due to heavy snow and a 11 car accident.
Hopefully winter is not here to stay.
This is a photo of Mt. Royal and Peak 1 just behind Frisco near I-70. We hiked almost to the top of Peak 1 on Thursday.
Sun came out so I took a couple more photos before the snow melts.
For the past several months, Helen and I have been working with our neighbor, Karn Stiegelmeier, in her campaign for Summit County Commissioner. Last night, she was successful in winning the Democratic primary for this position. Now we must start working to get her elected in the general election in November against two other candidate's.

Helen rode her bike this morning from our house to Montezuma which is past Keystone. She called at 10:30AM to report that she spotted a dusting of snow at Arapahoe Basin from last nights storm. Even though it is a dusting, it does qualify in our book as "First Snow".
I am uploading some of my photos to a Capture Colorado Contest. Best photos, voted on by viewers, will end up being part of a Colorado Photo coffee table book to published next year.
