26 Oct 2009 - Best of Austria / Germany

After we picked up a rental car in Chur Switzerland, we drove to Austria. We spent 3 nights at Bichbach, Austria near the Germany boarder. We then drove past Innsbruck and stayed one night at a farm stay in Kaprun, Austria. Next we drove to Hallstatt Lake where we stayed 3 nights. Headed to the Danube river in the wine region near Milk, Austria before returning across Austria to Appenzell, Switzerland. 25 Oct 2009 - Best of Switzerland

We have gone through photos that we took in Switzerland and posted a slideshow. We started in Lauterbrunnen where we stayed in a camp ground (small cabin) for 5 nights. While in Lauterbrunnen valley, we did several hikes which included one where we could view people climbing the north face of Mt. Eiger. We then took the train to Zermatt for 2 nights. Here we hiked up the valley where we had a fantastic view of the Matterhorn.

On the second day, we left camp really early (6:15am) to drive two hours to hopefully view the Wild Dogs. Timing was perfect as we arrived just when the pack was returning to the den after their early morning hunt. We were able to watch the Alpha male feed his pups by regurgitating the kill up for each pup and then when they were all fed, he would then feed the alpha female mother. On the morning of the 3rd at Lebala, we began our drive early while the sun was still rising. At the end of the drive, we were able to view a Leopard with his kill laying next to a small bush. I still don't know how the tracker spotted it but he did. After our drive, we had to leave our Botswana camps and head for Namibia. We flew by small plane to Maun, Botswana and then to Johannesburg, South Africa. Click Here to view more photos from this day.

14 Oct 2009 - Kwara Camp in Botswana Photos

Below are links to our photos from the Kwara Camp in Botswana. We arrived there by small plane on the afternoon of Sept 6th just in time for the afternoon game drive. These drives did not get back into camp until after sunset. The guides wake you up at 6AM. At 6:30AM, you meet for a cup of coffee and some bush mush (oatmeal)and then off for the morning game drive. We would arrive back at the camp somewhere around 10:30-12:30PM for breakfast. You then showered, napped, write notes, review photos, and relax during the heat until 3:30PM High Tea. Then you start another afternoon/evening game drive.

14 Oct 2009 - Victoria Falls

This is Victoria Falls as viewed from Livingston Zambia on Sept 5Th, 2009. The falls can be viewed from the Zimbabwe side but our hotel Zambezi Sun in on the Zambia side and you have to pay an additional visa tax to leave Zambia and enter/exit from Zimbabwe. Although, there was not as much water as in April-May time frame, the falls are still impressive and are one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World.

While reviewing our videos that Helen took at the watering hole in Etosha Namibia at sunset I was able to capture this frame of three Gemboks at sunset. Love the colors.

08 Oct 2009 - Hyena bathing at a watering hole

I am working on getting this to work properly. It is a video we took of a hyena stopping by the water hole to take a bath. I am having problems getting Quicktime to work. For right now you can click on the image and after some time it will display. The clip is about 3 mins.

7 Oct 2009 - Okavango Delta Elephant

While on a boat ride at the Kwara Camp in Botswana we were met by the magnificent elephant slowing walking through the water. The boat stopped he slowly approached the boat and turned and walked off. We could only hear the "sloshing" of water as he walked away.

06 Oct 2009 We are back

We arrived back from our 7 wk vacation in Switzerland, Austria, Southern Germany, Victoria Falls, Botswana, Namibia, and wine regions around Capetown South Africa. I starting to go thru the photos and videos we took. This photo is from Lauterbrunnen Valley in Switzerland. We stayed in a small camping cabin for 5 nights and hiked the Swiss Alps.
